Ayers, John Patrick, 76, of Plymouth, MA passed away peacefully on March 25, 2015. He was born in Buffalo, NY to the late John J. Ayers and Marion (Condren) Ayers. John was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Buffalo, NY and the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.
He was commissioned as a Naval Officer in June, 1960, served in Newport, RI and was Honorably discharged in 1963. He was part of the Cuban Missile Crisis force.
He had a long career in industrial sales before he moved to Plymouth, MA in 2002 to be closer to his family. He then worked for many years at the Home Depot (appliances) in Plymouth, MA
John was known for his love of the Irish song, the outdoor life and antiquing. He could be found kayaking the ocean or the ponds in Plymouth, practicing his fly fishing in the front yard, hunting pheasant in the fields of Pennsylvania, singing a folk song in the local Irish pub, or locating an antique which always had a great story. He also had a profound love of cooking which some of his family inherited, and some didn’t!
He is survived by his daughters Kathleen (Alfred Ferland) of Edgartown, MA, Julie(Steven Bernstein) of Ormond Beach, FL, and Coleen (Michael McDonough) of Plymouth, MA. He loved his grandchildren Alexandra Ferland, Matthew McDonough, Elliot Ferland, and Nicholas McDonough. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Daniel C. and Edward J.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 30th from 4-7pm. There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, March 31st at 10am at St. Bonaventure’s in Plymouth, MA. Interment will follow at Bourne National Cemetery.
