Obituary for Joseph Anthony Horn Jr.

Joseph A. Horn, of Plymouth, died March 31, 2015, at age 81. He was the beloved husband for 47 years of Carol (Deitch); loving father of Rachel McGonagill of Corvallis, Oregon, and Matthew of Watertown; loving grandfather of Molly, Maeve, and Kate; caring older brother of the late James, David of Natick, and John of Hampton, NH. Survived by several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. Beloved son of the late Joseph Horn and Gertrude (Sullivan) Horn, he was born in Laconia, NH, and graduated from Glen Ellyn College in Glen Ellyn, IL, and from St. Marys Seminary in Baltimore, MD. He received masters degrees from Simmons College in Library Science, Catholic University of America in Sacred Scripture, and Boston University in Theology. Joe worked as a foreign language cataloger at the Boston Public Library for 35 years and was proficient in many languages, including Aramaic. He translated two books from French. Joe published a memoir called Moving Target. He was very active in Plymouth, as overseer of the Plymouth Public Library, in local Democratic politics, and on the No Place for Hate committee. He was also an active member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. A celebration of his life will be held at the church, at 384 Court Street, in Plymouth, Sunday, April 12, at 2 p.m. After the service there will be a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church.
