Obituary for Robert Norton

NORTON, Robert Patrick, 86, of Duxbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17th, which also marked the 62nd wedding anniversary date he shared with his beloved wife, Mary, of 59 years, who pre-deceased him on October 13th, 2013. Bob was born and raised in South Boston, MA to Patrick and Marie (Guiney) Norton on October 7th, 1929. He leaves his brother James and is pre-deceased by his brother Paul. Bob graduated from Boston College High School in 1946 at the age of 16. He later went on to serve during the Korean War and was stationed at The Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK. In 1954, Bob and Mary were married and moved to Duxbury to start their lives together, raising 7 children. Bob went on to become Vice President of Knapp Shoe and President of Montello Shoe in Brockton, MA. Robert and Mary travelled extensively in their many happy years together and split their time between their homes in Naples, FL and Duxbury. During their 59 years together they made and continued many strong friendships far and wide. Bob will be most remembered for his excellent sense of humor, dedicated sense of family and his very caring and generous spirit towards both his family and friends, as well as those in need. Bob was the true patriarch of his family and his presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He is predeceased in life by his wife Mary and his son, Robert Jr. (1982). He is survived by his 6 children; Christopher J. Norton and his wife Sally of Spofford, N.H., Mary Ellen Norton Lindberg of Pawlet, VT., Andrew H.P. Norton and his partner Mary Bearce of Plympton, MA., Paula Anne Norton (Rapp) of Duxbury, MA., Anne Norton Lavalley and her Husband James Lavalley of Kingston, MA., and Julie Norton Stewart and her Husband Stewart of Portland, OR. Additionally, he will be greatly missed by his 8 grandchildren, Kayla, Jessie, and Patrick, Christopher and Nora, Grace and Bobby, and Nathaniel. Funeral arrangements will be made by the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, PLYMOUTH, MA. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, July 20th from 4-7 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church in Duxbury, MA, on Thursday, July 21st, at 10:00 am. Internment will be at The Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Boston Terrier Rescue League.
