Obituary for William F Marcella Sr.

William Francis Marcella, 93, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
Born in Somerville, MA on July 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Felix (Phil) Marcella and Lillian Ford Marcella. Bill graduated from The College of the Holy Cross and Boston University School of Law where a plaque is hung in his honor for being the first winner of their Moot Court Competition in 1944. Upon graduation he started working in his father’s law firm in Boston and then as an Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of MA, which he represented and won a case for in the Supreme Court of the U. S. He eventually opened up his own law practice in Hanover, MA.
Bill was an avid tennis player, music lover, talented dancer and accomplished artist. He was married for 58 years to the late Virginia (Herlihy) Marcella, living and raising their 6 children in Hull, Hanover and Cape Cod before retiring to Vero Beach in 1989. Bill was pre-deceased by his brother Felix (Sonny) in 1974, his wife Virginia (Herlihy) Marcella in 2006, his son Bruce in 1992, and his granddaughter Ivy in 2005.
Bill is survived by his sons: William Marcella Jr. and Gayle of Harwich, MA; Gregory Marcella and Christine of Oak Bluffs, MA; Kurt Marcella & Pam of Scituate, MA; Douglas Marcella and Kym, of Carver, MA, and his daughter Kim Marcella of Yarmouth Port, MA. Bill was loved by 15 grandchildren: Jed, Orrin, Tim, Karen, Sage, Ivy, Chase, Joyelle, Caitlin, Nicole, Michael, Dylan, Kali, Iris & Ursula and 10 great-grandchildren. For the last 8 years, Jacqueline Trifari, of Montville, NJ, has been a close and loving companion. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org in memory of William F Marcella.
