Obituary for William Antoine Checchio

William A. Checchio, 70, June 5, 1946 - May 8, 2017

Bill Checchio passed away peacefully on Monday at his home in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Born in Pittsburgh, Bill lived in Ocean City, New Jersey for over 30 years. The son of William B. and Eileen Checchio, Bill is survived by his wife, Maureen Privitera, his son Nicholas, his daughter Regan, his grandson Daniel, his mother Eileen, and his brother and three sisters. He was a loving husband, loyal friend, and an engaged father and grandfather. Knowing him was to know his kindness, wit, and intellect.

Bill was a high school teacher for forty years, teaching English to two generations of students in the community. He also coached high school girls’ basketball for many years, imparting his love of sportsmanship and friendly competition. In addition to his love of sports, (particularly the Cleveland Indians), he had an artistic side, with a love of music, photography, and cooking.

Over the last several years, Bill faced his Multiple Systems Atrophy diagnosis with incredible strength, great humor, and grace, surrounded by family and loved ones.

The memorial will be held at Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth, on Saturday, May 20 from 10:30 AM - 1:00 PM, with a service to begin at noon.

The family asks that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers, please strongly consider a donation in memory of Bill Checchio to the Brain Support Network at www.brainsupportnetwork.org or to Hope Hospice at hopehealthma.org/services/hope-hospice. Thank you.
