Obituary for Adelbert Nelson Peckman

On Sunday, May 30, 2021, Adelbert “Brud” Nelson Peckman, loving husband and father of three
children, six grand-children and eleven great grand-children passed away at the age of 82.

Brud was born on December 22, 1938 in Plymouth, MA to Adelbert and Lily (Evans) Tribou. Brud
took the last name of his step-father, James Peckman, who became his dad after Lily remarried in
1946. He received his high school degree from Wareham High School. He enlisted in the US Navy
where he proudly served as a Seaman and Bosun on the USS The Sullivans (DD 537) on August
31, 1959. He had a vast lifelong skill set from masonry, to carpentry to plumbing and had a number
of professions throughout his life ranging from welding Navy ships at the Quincy shipyard, to
building the theatre at the Plimoth Plantation, to being the Plymouth Dog Officer to securing the
condominiums and complex at the Pine Hills. On February 11, 1966, he married Arvene Esther
Peckman (Halunen) in Plymouth, MA. They raised three children, Michael, Michelle and Lily.

Brud had a passion for nature and being outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, clam, lobster, farm and
just about anything that involved the ocean, land and forest. Whether it be pulling lobster traps or
casting a pole in the Cape Cod Canal, catching (not just fishing) in Cape Cod and Buzzard’s Bay,
pheasant hunting in the Myles Standish State Forest, clamming at his favorite spots off of C***** ****
**** (intentionally redacted - LOL), raising the biggest, juiciest Thanksgiving turkeys this side of the
Mississippi or just sitting under the Pagoda with family and friends laughing and telling war stories.
Brud was the person you wanted by your side as he would always help you catch or find whatever
you were looking for. Brud loved getting together with his ever growing family. Brud’s sweet,
comforting family prayers around a big kitchen table while four generations of family were holding
hands was always something that left a lump in everyone’s throat and we all will be forever blessed
for being around that table with him. Brud loved pitching horseshoes and started an annual Labor
Day horseshoe tournament which turns 29 years old in 2021 and will be officially renamed to the
Brud Peckman Memorial Labor Day Tournament this year. Brud enjoyed an occasional Miller Lite,
was an avid collector of fishing and hunting spots, guns and people and cherished each and every
one of his hunting and fishing friends that he had throughout his life. He was known for his quick wit,
his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit and would literally give you the shirt off of
his back if you asked.

Brud was preceded in death by his birth father, Adelbert, his mother, Lily and his adopted father
James. He is survived by his wife Arvene, his three children and their spouses, Michael and Gail,
Michelle and Tim, and Lily and Chad, his grandsons James and Christoper, his granddaughters
Haley, Mistie, Sarah and Jenna, his great-grandchildren Chloe, Kaylee & Katrina, Evelyn & Lucy,
Evan, Noah & Bryn, Kole, Nate & Ceirin. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis, his half brothers
George and John, his half sister Patricia, his Aunt Helen, the Luciano family and several dear
cousins (among them Butch, Ed & Dianne), nieces, and nephews.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, June 4th, 2021 at the Manomet Cemetery on
White Horse Road at 1 o’clock p.m. Immediately followed by a celebration of life for Brud at the
Moose Lodge at 601 State Road in Plymouth MA from 2 o’clock p.m. to 6 o’clock p.m. In lieu of
flowers, please send donations in Brud's honor to the American Heart Association
(https://www.heart.org/?form=donate).
