Obituary for Brian Lee Cornell

Brian Lee Cornell of Hingham passed away peacefully on July 22, 2022 from ongoing health complications related to muscular dystrophy.

Brian was born March 23 1946, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. As an accomplished youth hockey player, Brian was recruited to Cornell University, where he, as senior co captain, lead his team to a National Championship and earned the recognition of two time All American, and eventually a spot in the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame. During his time at Cornell, he met his wife, Joy.

After graduation, he began his professional career at Price Waterhouse, where he quickly rose the ranks to Partner and eventually Office Managing Partner, serving on the firm’s prestigious Policy Board.

Brian enjoyed watching his children from the sidelines of the baseball and soccer fields, as well as skiing with them at Waterville Valley, NH.

In retirement, Brian focused on his true passion, horse racing. Brian loved the beach, especially early in the morning. He was incredibly well read, serving as a human encyclopedia, whereby his friends and family coined the phrase “ask Brian”, well before you could “google it”.

Brian is survived by his wife, Joy, son, Michael Cornell of Arlington MA, daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Anthony Aceto of Cohasset MA, and his grandson Charlie Aceto. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Cornell, and his brother and sister -in-law, Rick and Terry Cornell and many nieces, nephews, their spouses, and children.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Norma, his brother, Barry Cornell and his sister, Carol Shura, of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

A celebration of life will be held on a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham.
