Obituary for Carol Williams (Baroni)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Lynn Williams, 76, of East Dennis, MA. Carol passed peacefully just after a beautiful sunrise on January 12, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Carol loved deeply and was beloved by many. She radiated beauty, warmth, and joy, lived passionately and wholeheartedly, and touched an infinite number of lives with compassion and empathy. She dedicated much of her life to raising and empowering her two daughters and her five grandchildren.

Carol was born in Brockton, MA, on July 19, 1946, and grew up in Bridgewater, MA where she attended Bridgewater Public Schools and Cardinal Spellman High School. Her summers during these years were spent on Cape Cod working as a carhop and cashier for the family business, Holiday Hill, in Dennisport. She earned an associate degree in accounting from Becker Junior College and moved to Boston where she worked for John Hancock. She married Dennis Williams, now former husband, and they lived in Framingham and Chelmsford, during which time she worked for Honeywell. After having both daughters, Cara and Alyssa, the family moved to East Dennis on Cape Cod in 1977, where she resided permanently for the remainder of her life. Much of her time on Cape Cod was dedicated to raising her daughters, caring for her mother and father, Hugo and Mary Baroni, in-laws, Helen and Doyle Williams, and working as a bookkeeper for Casey Homes and multiple roles at Cape Cod Hospital.

Carol always noticed and appreciated the beauty in her surroundings. She loved the smell of the salt air, the warmth of the sun on her face, and the golden glow of the light blanketing the beach at low tide. She loved to travel the world, see new places, meet new people, try new foods, and experience other cultures. She traveled frequently with her daughters and their families, most notably and recently to Italy to visit her beloved Italian relatives. She loved and connected deeply with art, theater, and music. She had a beautiful singing voice and was often humming a tune. She had a soulful rhythm and loved to dance. She continued to sing and tap to the beat, even during her very last days.

Carol had a deep love for her family and friends. She adored her daughters and grandchildren and was a devoted and enthusiastic spectator and fan to all their activities no matter how far of a drive or what kind of weather. She was their number one fan and advocate in all their life pursuits. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family and friends, hosting cookouts, birthdays, and holidays or gathering for hours on her favorite beaches in East Dennis.

Carol was a giver of her time, energy, and heart. She volunteered an immeasurable number of hours with the Girl Scouts, Parent Teacher Associations, and The Salvation Army, as a Catechism teacher and a supporter of various athletic teams over the years.

Carol’s brown eyes were warm and inviting and her smile was infectious. She loved to laugh, to make light of things, and to focus on the good stuff. She had a sparkle that would light up a room and a laugh that was infectious. She was a natural caregiver to all living beings she encountered. She never hesitated to offer a warm meal, a ride home, a safe place, or a hand to hold. She loved animals and rescued and raised many over the years, always opening her home to those in need.

Carol was a strong, independent, and determined woman with a powerful work ethic. With challenging times came determination and persistence while maintaining her values of kindness, compassion, and empathy.  She was an advocate for equality, fairness, and justice. She understood and believed that all human beings deserve love, respect, and opportunities.  She was a fervent defender and supporter of the disadvantaged in her community and continually found ways to lift them up.

Carol was predeceased by her parents, Hugo and Mary Baroni as well as her sister Barbara Fritz and brothers John and Philip Baroni. She is survived by daughter Cara Gizzi and husband Keith; daughter Alyssa McGraw and husband Marcus; former husband and friend Dennis Williams; and her five grandchildren Hugo, Lucia, Brody, Stella, and Caroline. She is also survived by a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives both in the United States and in Italy.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 22nd from 1:00-4:00 pm.
