Obituary for Carolyn Mary Brannigan (Deffner)

Carolyn Mary Brannigan of Kingston, age 78, died after a brief illness on Saturday, August 8, 2020, with loved ones by her side.

Born in Worcester, MA, on April 9, 1942, to Irene G. (Dusoe) and Louis F. Deffner, Carolyn was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where she met the love of her life, Patrick J. Brannigan, just before her 13th birthday on a subway ride home from Coney Island. They wed in October 1962 and were married for nearly 55 years, before his death in March of 2017.

Both worked at John F. Kennedy International Airport (Pan Am and SAS) and loved being a part of the airline industry during its heyday.

Carolyn and Patrick raised their daughter, Doreen Ann Brannigan, in Massapequa Park, NY, before later moving to join her and her husband (Bryan Wadsworth) in Kingston, MA, where they took much joy in watching their grandson, Shea Wadsworth, grow up.

Always creative, Carolyn studied photography and spent the last 25 years involved in all manner of paper crafting. No holiday or birthday will be the same without receiving one of her signature handcrafted cards. Those who knew her best will miss her penchant for breaking out in song and her quick wit.

After Patrick’s passing, Carolyn gained a whole new life meeting new people and making good friends at the Kingston Senior Center. She took advantage of everything the center had to offer and was looking forward to seeing her friends again after the pandemic.

A remembrance ceremony for friends and family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to the Friends of the Kingston Council on Aging.
