David
Francis
Noonan
David Noonan, 86, of Centerville, MA formerly of Dorchester died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by
his loving family after a long battle with cancer. He joined the US Marine Corps at 17 and served in Korea
before realizing little Davey needed to fly, so he joined the US Air Force as an airman reservist. Over the
course of 40 years, he served in Vietnam and Desert Storm. Much like Johnny Cash, he’d been
everywhere, but Iceland, Portugal, Spain, and Germany held a special place in his heart.
Post-retirement, he cared for his pride and joy - his three grandsons, Kyle, Conor, and Jake Ollmann.
They will forever remember their Papa with the greatest of fondness. He enjoyed teaching them to
build and fix things with the proper tools, and whenever something broke, they believed “Papa can fix
it”.
David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Jo (Wynne) Noonan of Centerville, his daughter
Katie (Noonan) Ollmann of Quincy, his son, John Noonan and his wife Zita of Chesapeake, VA, his
daughter, Margaret Noonan of Washington, DC, his grandsons Kyle, Conor, and Jake Ollmann of Quincy,
his sister Judith (Noonan) Ferreira of Quincy, his two goofy dogs, many nieces and nephews, and his two
oldest and dearest friends, John Olsen of Weymouth and Reijo Aaltonen of Centerville. Predeceased by
his beloved mother Elizabeth (Flaherty) Noonan, his father Robert J. Noonan, his older brother Robert J.
(‘Bob’) Noonan and his sister Mary (Noonan) Limauro.
He will be remembered by his children as the best nursemaid in all of New England, and by those who
loved him as a kind and loving man who was forever tinkering in his workshop and was always willing to
help. He related to young children and the elderly but especially to fellow veterans, often bonding with
them about his time overseas and the aircraft he fixed and flew.
David’s family would like to thank VNA of Cape Cod Hospice, his oncologist, Dr. Edward Wyluda of
Hyannis and his dedicated staff for their constant support and care of him over the past 18 months.
David will be honored at Visiting Hours on Monday, April 11 from 4-6PM at Bartlett Funeral Home in
Plymouth and his burial will occur on Thursday, April 14 at 11:15AM at Mass National Cemetery in
Bourne with military honors.
