Obituary for Dr. Aloysius F. D'Souza

Dr. Aloysius F. D’Souza, 81, passed away suddenly July 21, 2023 after suffering heart complications. He was born August 11, 1941 in Bombay (Mumbai) India to Hermenegild and Rose D’Souza. He grew up in Bandra, India, attending St. Mary’s High School, Mt. Abu, India. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College and National Medical College both in Bombay, then did his internship in London before traveling to the United States to do a general surgery residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, MA. It was in Worcester where he met the love of his life, Sally Larson, and they married in April of 1969. Soon after they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he completed his fellowship at Creighton University School of Medicine in 1972.

Al spent time in Devils Lake, North Dakota, joined a surgical practice in The Dalles, Oregon and after becoming a U.S. citizen, he was determined to give back to this country and joined the United States Navy in 1977 as a Commander on a ship and spent three years in Okinawa, Japan. He then moved to Harrisonville, Missouri and eventually settled down closer to family in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1985 with their three children Dianna (“Dodie”), Matthew, and Andrew. He spent the last three decades of his career as a surgeon at Jordan Hospital (Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth).

Al was kind, intelligent, extremely driven, dedicated to his practice and always doing the very best for his patients and their families, but most of all devoted to his wife and family.

Al enjoyed nature. He could identify and name every plant and flower species around. He loved wildlife and animals. He loved traveling the West and Alaska with Sally. He adored skiing with his family, eating whatever foods he could get his hands on, giving medical advice to people and facetiming with his grandkids. He was an avid fisherman and took great pride in taking friends, colleagues, neighbors and family on his boat. His greatest pastime though was watching wrestling, and even in the past few years never missed WWE on Monday nights.

Al is preceded in death by his wife Sally, his parents and his sister Margaret. He is survived by his sister Mary Van Rol, his brother Francis D’Souza, his brother Joseph D’Souza, his daughter Dodie and her husband Paul Bellavance, his son Matthew and his wife Sarah, and his son Andrew and his wife Caitlin, his grandchildren Sadie, Margaret, Grace, Wolfe, Leo and Jack and many nieces and nephews.
