Obituary for Elizabeth Jean Strimitis (Randall)

Elizabeth (Betty) Jean Strimitis (Randall) passed away on Sunday, October 15th , surrounded by her family. Betty was born on June 4th, 1941. The daughter of Donald Howard Randall Senior, and Isabel Allegra Randall, Betty spent her early years in Randolph before moving to Halifax, MA. Betty always had a love for animals and while in Randolph, spent countless hours riding the trails of the Blue Hills reservation with her family. Upon moving to Halifax in 1955, she found a whole new world with animals. Ponies, sheep, and dogs were her constant companions on her families 50 plus acre farm. Betty graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 1959 and went on to attend the University of Vermont where she majored in both Biology and Chemistry. She graduated near the top of her class, but because of the time she went to college was never able to fulfill her dreams of becoming a veterinarian. Her incredible talents in the biological sciences were not wasted, however, as she worked for the Massachusetts State Lab tracking Eastern Equine Encephalitis and other vector borne pathogens. Betty met the love of her life, William (Bill) Strimitis, and was married in 1968 and had her only child, Jennifer in August of 1969. After her husband passed, Betty went on to work at Massasoit Community College as a lab technician where she fostered the success of countless students. Upon her retirement, Betty continued to champion animals, rescuing many feral cats, and providing them with a home. Her love of the outdoors followed her through life. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and scrapbooking. When you ask people to describe her the words caring, generous and loving are so frequently mentioned. The world has lost a beautiful soul.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Jennifer E. Mendell from Rochester, her siblings, Virginia (Randall) Lee and her husband William Lee from California, Howard Randall and his wife Betsy Randall, from Plympton, MA, Roger Randall and wife Christina Randall from Plymouth, MA, JoAnn Randall from Plymouth, MA and Robert Randall and wife Carola from Gardner, Maine as well as nieces and nephews David, Donna, Joshua, Amanda, Asa and Sarah and many grandnieces and nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty’s name to the Wildlands Trust or any animal rescue group in the area.
