Obituary for Gertrude Ryan

Ryan, Gertrude E (McDonough) of Plymouth, MA formerly of Malden and Somerville passed away at peacefully at home on October 7,2021. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, James P. Ryan, by only 8 days. She is survived by granddaughters Brigid Surdam and her husband David of Billerica and Heather Denham and her husband Peter or Nashua, NH, great-grandchildren, Breena, Sean and Emerson. She was also predeceased by both her sons, James and Robert, grandson Shane and brother William McDonough.

Gertrude was born to William and Gertrude “Mae” (McBrearty) McDonough on February 15,1929. She grew up in Somerville where she met the love of her life James when they were teenagers. She lived a very long life with her husband and partner in crime, going on countless adventures and overcoming life’s hardships. She held several jobs in retail, starting out in the Sears Roebuck building in Fenway. She then turned to the world of Finance and spent the rest of her career working in banks, retiring as an Assistant Bank Manager in 1991.

Gert enjoyed puzzles, Cowboy movies, soaking up the sunshine, playing Scrabble and Bingo, fond of playing the lottery, the color pink and going to the casino. A day rarely went by where she didn’t have a Busch Light in hand. She will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 14th from 5-7 pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Church, 803 State Road, Plymouth, MA on Friday, October 15th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at MA National Cemetery.
