Obituary for Gordon Davis Harwood

HARWICH – Gordon Davis Harwood, 69, of Harwich passed away Thursday, September 10, 2020
in his home after a long battle with lung disease.

Gordy was the husband of Jean Hugli Harwood, his wife of 45 years.
Born in Newton, MA to the late Margaret M. Harwood and late Henry Harwood, Gordy was
raised in Waban, MA and spent his summers in Brewster in Brewster Park Club. He graduated
from Newton South High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Navy and served in the Vietnam
War.

He attended Bentley University and graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in
Management and Associates of Science in Accounting. Following this he moved to Harwich, MA
with Jean to raise their family.

Gordy worked as store supervisor for Cumberland Farms and later as manager for A&P in
Harwich. In 1991 he left retail to follow his dream of working with cars. He opened Harwood
Automotive, which remained open until 2002.

Gordy was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved spending time with his family. He
particularly enjoyed spending time at the Harwood family camp in Wayne, Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, and his three children, Charlotte Harwood Moriarty and her
husband Adam of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Philip Gordon Harwood and his wife Sam of
Kittredge, Colorade, and Nicholas Charles Harwood and his wife Meghan of Fallbrook,
California. He also is survived by six grandchildren. In addition, he leaves his siblings Albert L.
Harwood III of Wrentham, Elizabeth H. Eldredge of Chatham, David K. Harwood of Brewster,
William B. Harwood of Brewster, Priscilla H. Karlgren of Carthage, Maine, Jane H. Benson of
Draper, Utah, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in 2003 by his brother Kenneth
M. Harwood of Warwick.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
