Obituary for Helen Kindy (Begella)

Helen Kindy, 90, of Plymouth
Loving mother and devoted wife Helen Kindy died peacefully Aug. 20, 2022, in her home at
Stafford Hill Assisted Living in Plymouth. She was 90.

Helen loved to laugh and chat. She was always calling family and friends to catch up on the
latest news and share updates about what everyone else was up to. She also loved to cook and
bake. When her children were young, her chocolate chip cookies were the envy of the
neighborhood.

Though she didn’t get her license until she was in her 40s, Helen enjoyed driving the car. She
toured around the South Shore and would travel as far as Canada to visit relatives. Chatting
while she drove, Helen was an explorer, often visiting many new and interesting destinations
after becoming lost because she was distracted and missed her turn.

Daughter of Istvan and Irma (Nemes) Begella, Helen was born on Sept. 12, 1931, in Niagara
Falls, Ont., Canada. She attended public schools there, then followed her passion into nursing.
Helen graduated in 1953 from the Greater Niagara General Hospital School of Nursing, where
she worked until leaving to raise a family. At her graduation ceremony, Helen received the
Award for General Proficiency.

Helen immigrated to the United States in 1961 with her husband and family. She cared for her
family while her husband worked in the hotel industry. They were transferred around the
country, living in numerous states. In 1972, the family moved to Scituate, Mass., a town she
loved.

In 1978, Helen moved to Memphis, Tenn., where she went back into nursing. She worked in the
operating department at both Baptist Memorial Hospital and Baptist East Hospital. She was
never more happy than when she could help others as a nurse.

The family moved back to New England in 1982, settling first in Framingham before relocating
to Plymouth in 1986. She became well known around town as she visited local businesses,
seeking donations of products and services for the Relay For Life of Greater Plymouth, among
other charities.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jozsef, sister Margit and husband Donald. She
had four sons: David and his wife Elynor of Plymouth, Mark and his wife Lisa of Tampa, Fla.,
Tom and his wife Belinda of Lakeville, and Tim and his wife Lori of Hanson. She had seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who brought great joy to her life.

Helen was a loving mother, wife and friend. Her care and concern for others knew no bounds.
She was a bright light who took great pride in her family and wanted the best for everyone. We
will all miss her.

Per her request, Helen’s body is being cremated. Arrangements are by Bartlett Funeral Home of
Plymouth. A memorial service is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a
donation to the charity of your choice in her name.
