Obituary for Henry Gerard Bock

Henry “Hank” G. Bock passed away at home August 19, 2022. He was born October 16, 1942 ,to Jacob and Bertha (Jones) Bock and raised in his beloved Southie, which he proudly boasted to anyone in line at Dunkin Donuts or at BJ’s Warehouse.

Hank met his future bride of almost 55 years, Pamela (McCarthy) on January 8, 1965, as he was cruising down Newbury St in his red Mustang. That date would become one of the many “numbas” he played for many years, hardly ever a winnah.
They married in 1968, raising their children in Norwood for 19 years, before moving to Walpole, Plymouth, and South Yarmouth.

Hank graduated from South Boston High Class of 1960, and was a captain of the Boston School Cadets. He attended Mass Military Academy, graduating in1964 and served as Lieutenant in the Army National Guard He was a member of Boston Crusaders, whom he faithfully supported over the years. He held many roles including president with the Norwood Lions Club, dedicating much time to the Lions All-State Band, and is a former member of the Walpole Country Club, where his famous Jackie Wilson rendition karaoke always wowed the Allen Bowl crowd.

Hank was proud of his 45-plus years’ work as a lighting manufacturer’s rep, where he lit many well-known buildings in Rhodie and Mass. He began his career at GE, then worked for many years at Fay, Macrae & Snow, then Reflex Lighting and eventually retiring from SK & Associates. Hank hoarded many a Dunkin Donuts calendar to use the coupons to bring dozens of donuts to his customers while on the road.

A unique presence, an eternal jokester, he always had a room laughing with his comedic phrases. Known as “Wally Weather”, he’d study the “dopplah” and would call to report the latest conditions.

Hank was an avid reader, a devoted crossword puzzler who spent hours on his painting kits and putting together gigantic Legos models. His love of music ranged from his loved Boston Crusaders or to ELO, the Doobie Brothers to Frankie Vallie, Doo Wop to musicals.

Loving father of Kimberly Martin and her husband Michael of Whitman, Stacey McLaughlin and her husband Joshua of Los Angeles, and Jeffery of Mashpee. Cherished grandfather of Chelsea Harrington (Evan), and Maddie and Riley McLaughlin, and great-grandpa to Aidan and Emma Harrington. Devoted brother of Joseph (Betty) of Onset and Patricia (Earl) Rand of Sagamore Beach Also survived by nephews and their families, and cousins.
