Obituary

Joanne Harrington, 65, of Dennisport, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on October 15, 2020. She will be remembered for her love of nature and devotion to family.

Born on February 14, 1955 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Joanne, or "Jojo", grew up on Cape Cod and put herself through college, graduating from Vermont College of Norwich University in 2000. She later educated and inspired youth as a STEM teacher in the Chatham and Nauset schools. In 2006 she earned a Master of Education from Cambridge College.

Joanne had many talents and interests, including arts and crafts, singing in her church choir, and baking her famous holiday cookies. From her practice of yoga to her adventures kayaking and hiking along the rivers of New Hampshire, she embraced all life had to offer.

Joanne's wishes are to be remembered alongside her mother's name on their memorial bench at Millway Beach in Barnstable village.

Predeceased by her parents Denise (St Pierre) Harrington and Daniel Harrington, Joanne is survived by her partner Geno and sisters Maureen, Eileen and her partner Glenn, Kathleen, Colleen and brother-in-law Craig, along with her nephew and nieces, Brian, Kimberly, Stephanie, and Cora, and grandnephews and grandniece, Bryson, Garrett, Sierra, and Parker.

Donations can be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Condolences can be offered at www.bartlett1620.com.

The day we got the news, A deep sorrow, A sorrow that seeps into your bones , And you, such an acceptance of your fate. An unending optimism. Where did you find the strength, It never occurred to me that you would die, Until you were dying, Each day an eternity watching and waiting, Our vigil by your bedside, Coming to the realization that I would be living the rest of my life without you Jo. The memories flooding in. ( 62 years) So layered with Love, Hope, Connection, and sometimes disconnection, ( Sisters ) I think we finally got it right when we decided to have our yearly sister reunion, So looking to creating more great memories together, You were thrilled, Never saw you happier, Your new soul love that you had with Geno, The future looking so bright, A future you so greatly deserved, It was not to be, I find solace that you knew you were loved, And now you are in the light of love and peace, And we all have an angel watching over us,

Your loving sister
Kathleen

Joanne was a "regular" in our church choir for years, and she also lent her voice to various other affairs of the church. She performed like a steady rudder in her role as church moderator, during what unsuspectingly proved to be very turbulent times. She handled herself and every situation with kindness, patience, wisdom, and resolve. Joanne also contributed to her church in many other ways as well; selling her wonderful painted rocks at the summer fair, to benefit the church, serving on many church committees, and much more. Joanne always approached everything, and everyone, with her big smile and upbeat attitude. She was unassuming, humble, and effective. I hope I learned from her in the time I knew her.
To Joanne's family and loved ones, please accept my sincere sympathies for your loss. I hope you'll find comfort in the image of Joanne in heaven, happily getting things organized in preparation for the rest of us to join her. Godspeed, Joanne!
