Obituary for John M Goggin

John Michael Goggin passed away on August 5th at age 49.

John was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, and grew up in Carver, Ma.

From a very young age, he knew what he wanted: to be on the water. He was a true seaman from the age of thirteen all the way up until his final days. He lived a life of great adventure from the daring work of being a commercial fisherman, fishing the Bering Sea to Georges Bank, and eventually gaining his captains license in his 20's, which led him to be a respected and well-known captain at Captain John Boats in Plymouth, Ma where he planned to work until retirement. John knew what he loved and where his heart belonged, and followed that passion his whole life. As they say, “If you do what you love, you never work a day in your life,” and that’s exactly what Johnny did.

John found pride in being the best at what he did, no matter what it was. He battled the Alaskan seas on a trip of a lifetime commercial crab fishing. He plotted whale watch journeys for the community and travelers to ensure they got the best experience possible. No matter what was thrown John’s way, he would face it head-on and succeed.

John was known for his kindness, big heart, and infectious energy. If you met John, you would never forget him. He was a true friend to many and didn’t have a mean bone in his body. His smile and laugh could light up a room, and that is a light that can never go away.

He had many hobbies and passions outside of his life on the ocean. He was the type of man that could do anything. Whether it be working on and riding dirt bikes, painting, construction, arbor work, renovation, heavy equipment operation, you name it, John could do it. He also had his real estate and contractor’s license. But his soul always brought him back to the water, where he belonged.

When John wasn’t on the water, he found peace and happiness in spending time with his beloved family. He loved being home with his children, fiancé, and dog Kai working on their property and doing projects together. John loved hosting family dinners where his mother, Kim, cousin Jesse, and extended family would sit, dine, and laugh together. He supported his family and always looked out for them no matter what they needed. He knew and felt true happiness.

As many will remember, John had a passion for motocross. He had incredible skill on a bike and was in his element riding or even just watching the races with his friends and family. There are endless stories about the days when John was ripping and riding with his buddies and testing the limits of just what he could do. He carried that passion to his family, where everyone would ride their dirt bikes together through the trails and cranberry bogs up the road from home. John was a daredevil on a bike, even from his childhood years. The thrill invigorated his soul and he never lost his excitement.

John was his own individual with a heart of gold. He helped so many people in their times of need and gave them messages they will never forget; he was indeed one of a kind. The love, friendship, and compassion he spread in his life will never be forgotten and will be carried on through everyone who knew him for years to come.

John is survived by his mother Kimberlee Goggin, his son Johnny Goggin, his Fiancé Chelsea Gage, and his daughter Naomi Gage. John is also survived by Aunts Denise Goodwin, Karen Slagle, Joanne Dunphy & Jerriann Connors, and Uncles Terry Slagle, Ray Slagle, Roy Slagle, Michael Goggin, Charlie Goodwin, Paul Connors & Gordo Dunphy, along with his many loving cousins. John is pre-deceased by his father, John Goggin, and his stepfather Paul Pinto.

When John was a very young boy, before he knew his soul would lead him to the water, he wrote, “It was a silent, windless night. There was only a sliver of moon. As it lit up the water, the foghorn sounded, a dragger was passing by. The sea was being pushed up along the sides of the old wooden boat. Although it was cool out, the sand was still warm from the earlier sun. This is my favorite place at night.”

John, we know your beautiful soul is now at peace. We love you, and we will carry you with us forever.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation will be Sunday, August 20th from 11 am - 1 pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will be private.
