John Patrick Toomey of Plymouth died suddenly on Thursday, March 2, 2023. He is the beloved fiancée of Evelyn Romero. John is survived by his daughter Helena Toomey, as well as his fiancé's son Marcelo Romero. He was the eldest of his mother’s four children, his brother Charles “Eddie” Conway, and his sisters Stephanie Toomey and Mary DeCosta. He stepson to the late Joseph DeCosta, uncle to Henry O’Neil and the grandson of Michael and Irene Toomey as well as Charles and the late Susan Conway. John is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends,.and extended family
John was born in Weymouth, Massachusetts on April 7, 1989 to parents Caitlin DeCosta and Matthew Toomey. He was raised in Plymouth and Halifax, attending Plymouth South schools and finishing at Silver Lake in Kingston. John mainly worked as a landscaper at Skinner Overlook but above all else John was a musician.
John’s love of music began with guitar lessons at the age of 10. Through his teen years and into adulthood John's band members, P.J. Rodrigues, Walter “Dizney” McEvoy, Mark Geanakakis, and Pat Warnica, were very much his “found family”. He made amazing memories with them, playing local shows, and he loved going on tour with his band Moose Knuckle. When he was home he loved experimenting in the kitchen and cooking for his loved ones. John had a wonderful sense of humor and was a lot of fun to be around. He had an unapologetic attitude toward life and lived it to the fullest, exactly how he wanted. His soul was bigger than life and made an impact on everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for support for his daughter Helena Toomey. A fund has been set up to receive donations in her name:
