Joseph Francis Santoro passed away in the arms of his wife, Lynn, in their home on Sunday, December 8, 2019, filled with the love of his daughters Sarah Kerrigan and Felicia Romzek; grandchildren William Kerrigan, Emily Kerrigan, Caliope Romzek and Zosha Romzek; son in law Peter Romzek, late son in law Philip Kerrigan, and late sister Mary Santoro (Paulson), In Laws Robyn and Wayne Egan, nieces, the great Santoro family and friends.
Joe loved life, his work, his family and friends. Born in Brockton, son of Ruth and Joe Santoro, Joe graduated from Brockton High, Massasoit Community College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He worked for Brockton Taunton Gas, University of Massachusetts, Berkshire Gas, Deerfield Academy and Community Connections of Cape Cod.
His smile lit up the room. He loved to share tales of his time in the Army, Fort Huachuca, AZ in the late 60’s. Mountain lions, trail rides and the beginnings of computer technology in the US armed forces. He loved to engage in political discourse and had a great love for this country, its ever-changing and enriching population and the beauty of the earth around us. As one of the older children of a large Italian/English/Irish/Scottish family, Joe had tremendous respect and admiration for immigrants to this land, and for the history of this great nation.
He loved all music, but jazz was his special love. He really enjoyed discussing the history of jazz and loved to recount his adventures at music festivals and events.
Joe was an active participant at the Alzheimer’s Family Support Center in Brewster, the Windsor Day Program in South Yarmouth and Bay to Sound Neighbors. If you would like to make a memorial donation in his name, please consider any of those organizations or the VNA Hospice of Cape Cod.
A private celebration of Joe’s life will be held in the spring of 2020.
