Obituary for Judith Boyd (Bray)

Judith Bray Boyd, of Barnstable Village, Cape Cod, passed away peacefully on February 4th, surrounded by the love, admiration, and gratitude of family and friends.

Judith was born in March, 1942, to Marion (Hillman) and Warren Bray in Hingham, Massachusetts. In pursuit of what would become a lifelong pattern of service and inspiration, Judy attended nursing school in Boston and, a short while later, was part of a surgical team repairing the badly broken leg of a man who had a skiing accident. During his recovery, the two fell in love and Judy and David Boyd (Newton, MA) were married 14 months later. Their love was a model of passion, depth and commitment until David’s passing in 2002.

After raising a family in New York City and Wilton, Connecticut, the adventure moved on to San Francisco where Judy got a Masters in Social Work and developed a private practice as a family and child therapist. Several moves later, Judy and David returned to their beloved Cape Cod where Judy became a school psychologist for the Barnstable Public School System working alongside beautifully dedicated faculty and making life-long friends.

After David’s passing, Judy’s desire to serve others blossomed further and took her all over the world with educational and service opportunities in South America, India, and South Africa. She also became a specialist with the National Center for Crisis Management giving her heart and expertise in the wake of Sandy Hook, the Fukushima nuclear disaster, and in support of those on the front lines of the COVID epidemic in Boston.

Judy was a true inspiration who genuinely lived her life and never stopped learning and growing. She used her seemingly limitless creative gifts to spread beauty and love through art and song, and gave all of herself so that others could thrive. Those fortunate enough to cross her path are filled with stories of personal growth, adventure, laughter, and deep gratitude. And, to a person, the name “Judy Boyd” brings a smile. The world has lost a beacon of hope, a champion of empowerment, a role model for living a life free from regret.

Judy is predeceased by her parents and her beloved husband and friend, David. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer, and her son, David (Jr) and his wife, Jane, her grandchildren, her brother Jeffrey and countless friends on Cape Cod, across the country, and around the world.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Limina Scholarship Fund in honor of Judith Boyd, 35 West Ocean Drive, Searsport, ME 04974.

A Memorial Service is being planned, more details to follow.
