Obituary for June Gloria Finan (Geisler)

June G. (Geisler) Finan, of Centerville, died peacefully on June 19th, 2020 at the age of ninety-two. She was born in Waltham, MA, the youngest daughter of Gustav and Sophia Geisler. She was married to Ernest T. Finan, Jr for fifty-one years until his death in 2001; they had five children together. The family moved from Waltham to Sudbury, MA in 1958 where they raised their children. In 1976 they moved to Barnstable, MA; they also maintained a second home in Naples, FL.

June was an astute bookkeeper and used these skills as the Assistant Business Manager for Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School from 1965-1976. She was also employed by Dr. Paul Jacques of Osterville and volunteered her bookkeeping skills to the Nature Conservancy in Naples, FL.

June had a keen mind for problem solving and embodied a “can do” attitude as evidenced by an impressive list of accomplishments. She spearheaded and managed the construction of two additions to the family home. She was an expert seamstress and skilled baker; she knitted countless sweaters, she wove Nantucket Lightship baskets, hooked rugs, refinished furniture, and planted a small forest of trees. She was a dedicated gardener with an extensive knowledge of plants. She fostered in all her children a love of nature. An afternoon digging in the garden often would be highlighted by the discovery of toads, turtles, and insects; a trip to beach was never complete without many hours spent exploring tidepools. She was a dog-lover to her core and always had at least one dog – all terriers, with the exception of her beloved Rosie. The dogs were, without exception, poorly trained, but greatly spoiled and loved.

June was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her parents, her sisters Lillian Geisler and Marie Bigham, and her brother Gustave Geisler. She is survived by her five children, Roderick J. Finan (Cathy Marsh) of Kittery, ME; E. Thomas Finan III (Patricia) of Centerville, MA; Jane Finan of Lewiston, ID; Peter Finan (Naoko) of Tokyo, Japan; and Sara Billings (Greg) of Naples Fl. Survivors also include eight grandchildren: Nate Finan, E. Thomas Finan IV, Rebecca Glawtschew, Elizabeth Westacott, Laura Kania, Erich Finan, Anne Ellyse Kania, and Amanda Crawford; nine great-grandchildren, and her sister, Sr. Muriel Geisler of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Victory in Centerville, MA on September 3rd, 2020 at 11 am. Interment will be at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Joseph the Worker Ltd. P.O. Box 1436, Great Falls, VA. 22066.
