Obituary for Keramettin Atabay
Keramettin Atabay (“Kero”) died peacefully at home in Plymouth on Tuesday September 17, 2019. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Before retiring in Duxbury and Plymouth, Kero lived and worked in Connecticut. He enjoyed his home and many home projects in Simsbury, CT. He later passionately designed and built his dream home in Canton, CT. He was a mechanical engineer at Combustion Engineering/ABB (Windsor, CT) for nearly 30 years.
Kero enjoyed spending time with his family. He demonstrated a life-time love for nature, art, painting, boating, reading, and hiking. In the past, he enjoyed many years of traveling, camping, gardening, cross-country skiing, canoeing, and boating with family and close friends . In earlier years, Kero also loved working on many of his construction or boating projects either at his lake home, the home he built in Connecticut, or out on the ocean. Most recently, you would find Kero enjoying time with his family, special mealtimes with his wife, reading two or more books/newspapers at one time, sunsets at the beach, or walking in the woods/beach with his precious Sammy, Teddy, and Beckett.
He leaves his beloved wife, Jale Atabay and his loving daughter Tijen Fitz-Patrick. He was the cherished “Baba” of his granddaughter Leyla Fitz-Patrick and her fiancé Michael Parisi. He also leaves behind close family and friends including a loving family-friend Rennan Bayturk and her family as well as his surviving sister Mualla.
Kero will be remembered for his gentle spirit of great kindness, warmth, humor, and forgiveness. He will be greatly missed.
Private memorial services will be held in October.
