Obituary for Lillian Rainville

Lillian Rainville 88, of Fairhaven passed away on November 28,2020 due to Covid-19. She was the wife of Raymond Rainville whom she was married to for fifty-two years. A lifelong resident of New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven. She was the daughter of the late Domingos and Anna (Braga) John. Lillian and her husband were communicants and choir members of the Sacred Heart Church of New Bedford for over thirty years, after moving to Fairhaven became communicants of St. Joseph’s Church of Fairhaven.

Lillian worked in the garment industry retiring from New Bedford Ship Supply where she made scallop bags and other fishing related items for our local fishing fleets for 25 years. Lillian and Raymond enjoyed the company and traveling with her older brother Manny (John) and his wife Evelyn. They ventured to many places, but one of their favorites was Foxwoods where they were waiting to hit the big one. Wah Mays restaurant in Fairhaven was a regular on the way home. She also enjoyed the company of her niece Adeline Rapoza, who visited with her regularly. They were so close in age people thought they were sisters. The Madeira Feast was always a favorite for Lillian. It was a tradition for the John family to celebrate by coming together to enjoy the festivities. Lillian’s home was always welcoming and her food always delicious. Saturday night cheeseburgers, Sunday family dinners, holiday French meat pies and party buffets were enjoyed by all. In her leisure time she enjoyed reading romance novels and watching her stories. Spending time with her large family on Sundays was something she always looked forward to.


Survivors include her children: Charlene Rainville Couto and Christine Paulson of New Bedford, Thomas Rainville and his wife Susan of New Bedford, Raymond Rainville and his wife Natalie of Dartmouth, John Rainville and his wife Lynn of Fairhaven. Three granddaughters: Nicole, Krystin and Sarah Rainville of New Bedford. Two grandsons: Justin Rainville and his wife Ariel, and Adam Couto both from New Bedford. Four Great-Grandchidren: Jordan Dupre, Kendyll Nelson, Ava Rainville and Jackson Rainville. She was the sister of the late: Mabel Perry, Virginia Medeiros, Linda Santos, Hilda Andrade, Manuel John, Domingos John, Arnold John, Leo John, Adeline John, along with many nieces and nephews.


In accordance with her wishes she was cremated due to the current pandemic and a private family burial will be held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
