Obituary for Linda Marie Veracka (Hassett)

Linda Veracka, 76, of Kingston passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Revere, MA on November 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Rita (Calandrini) Hassett and the late Robert A. Hassett. She was also the niece of the late Dora Calandrini, who helped raise her. She is reunited with her late husband, John C. Veracka, Jr., and her late sons, John C. Veracka III, and David A. Veracka, all of Kingston. She was also predeceased by her brother, Richard A. Hassett, of Dorchester.

Linda grew up in Dorchester where she was a member of St. Margaret Parish, attended St. Margaret School, and graduated from Monsignor Ryan Memorial High School in the class of 1964. Close with family and friends, she enjoyed her time as a child along the shores of Carson Beach and the City of Boston. After marrying, she moved to Kingston, MA, where she lived the rest of her life raising her family and working for local newspapers as a reporter and photographer.

She was passionate about writing and photography which were showcased in her excellent work at the Kingston Reporter, The Kingston Independent Voice, and other local newspapers. Additionally, she loved following and reporting on sports teams from both Silver Lake and Sacred Heart high schools. Traveling to and taking photographs throughout Italy, France, and England were major highlights in her life.

Linda was a lifelong student and loved the world of academia. As an adult, she went back to school where she earned her B.A. in English from Bridgewater State College, and her M.F.A. in Writing from Emerson College. An avid reader who always loved an eloquent poem or a good mystery, Linda also appreciated art, museums, nature, music, and all sorts of creative pursuits. This included making her own greeting cards, calendars, birthday invitations, and crafts.

More than anything she loved her grandchildren who she always supported, and fostered their whims, wishes, and talents to help them develop into who they are today. She joyfully attended all their concerts, musicals, soccer games and plays. She especially enjoyed buying them exotic Rubik’s cubes to master.

Linda was the loving mother of Leta Areski and son-in-law Ihsane Areski, and the loving grandmother of Ayah Areski and Sami Areski, all of Kingston. Linda is also survived by her sisters, Cecily Hassett-Salley (Tim) of Plymouth, Edie DiGiorgio (Bob) of North Reading, and her brother, Robert A. Hassett of Vermont. She also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Robert Veracka and sister-in law, Susan Veracka of Kingston, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The family would like to thank the medical staff for the excellent care and support provided by BID Plymouth ICU, and her PCP, Dr. Kohler.

Services will be private. Please leave a memory note here or send any memories you would like to share to lareski75@gmail.com as the family would like to compile them. Additionally, donations in her honor can be made to the American Diabetes Association Ways to Contribute ADA (diabetes.org)
