Obituary for Lisa Marie Weiler (Strzalkowski)

Lisa Marie Strzalkowski Weiler, 63, of Barnstable, Massachusetts died February 23 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Wilmington, Delaware to Henry R. Strzalkowski and Felicia M. Wasik Strzalkowski, Lisa graduated at the top of her class from St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington and received a scholarship to Ohio University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1978 and a Master of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science in 1980. With degrees in hand, she began a series of life-long career and personal adventures that took her around the world.

AT&T Bell Laboratories in Colorado was her first employer, where she fell in love with the mountains. After six years there, she moved to London for a position with The Instruction Set, traveled through Europe, and summited Mt. Kilimanjaro. Lisa met James William Weiler (Jim) when she interviewed him for a job at the new US office for the Instruction Set. They were married on May 30, 1993 in Lexington, Massachusetts and moved to Denver together soon after. There she opened a gallery—The Art of Craft—and became a pioneer in the early revival of lower downtown Denver.

Lisa and Jim relocated to Lexington, Massachusetts in 1998 with their two-year old daughter, Bryn Mariah. Once back on the east coast, Lisa worked in a number of professional roles at New England College of Optometry, Ipanema Technologies Corporation, BioAxone Biosciences and for the past five years at KornFerry International.

Lisa and Jim raised their two children—Bryn Mariah and Reed Henry—in Lexington and there she hosted large Thanksgiving feasts and yearly women’s solstice parties for her many friends and neighbors. On a recent cold winter day, 100 of them held handmade signs from their driveways proclaiming their love and support for her in a video greeting. Lisa is also remembered as an avid volunteer at Bryn and Reed’s schools, planning events like International Night and the Big Lex Debate Tournament. The Weilers moved to Cape Cod fulltime in 2019 with plans to eventually retire there.

Lisa is survived by her husband Jim, children Bryn and Reed, all of Barnstable, MA, and three sisters, Susan Katz (Alan) of Middletown, DE; Sharon Strzalkowski of Worcester, MA and Sheila Mohler (Bill) of Lititz, PA; nieces, nephews, cousins and hundreds of grieving friends.

Due to Covid-19, funeral arrangements will be postponed until it is safe to gather. Those who wish to honor Lisa’s legacy, can post condolences at the Bartlett Funeral Home, Plymouth MA website, Lisa's facebook page as well as send a donation to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod Hospice.
