Obituary for Marcia Jean Anderson (Alwardt)

Marcia Anderson (Alwardt) was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and often the wild friend. She died peacefully at home in Plymouth on March 28, 2023 at age 69.

Marcia was born to Carl and Francis Alwardt in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. Marcia’s love of the beach began here, despite her mother’s rule of life jackets at all times while at the beach!

Marcia graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and attended Cape Cod Community College. It was during this fun filled time on the Cape that Marcia met her beloved husband of 50 years, Steven Anderson. Together they began their life in New Milford, CT, and had their eldest child Erik [spouse, Katie]. Here Steve embarked on a long and successful career as an Air Traffic Controller. Marcia and Steve were fortunate enough to befriend Karen and Don Crossman during this early time in Steve and Don’s careers. Air Traffic Control brought Steve and Marcia back to Massachusetts, where they settled their family in Plymouth. Marcia and Steve added to their family with daughter, Lindsay, and son Kyle [spouse, Erin]. Once Lin and Kyle were school-age, Marcia began her rewarding career as a Co-Teacher and Paraprofessional for her beloved blind friend, Kathy Morey. Together they wrangled fourth graders and left an indelible impression on the students and staff of Indian Brook Elementary School. In her spare time, Marcia enjoyed golfing, visiting warm beaches, mailing both her sons (Erik and Kyle) care packages every day of their respective deployments, and watching golf. Upon retirement, Marcia and Steve embraced their love of the ocean and fishing by moving to Beaufort, North Carolina. Here they built their dream home and enjoyed their proximity to Lindsay and Katelyn. After setting out for warmer weather and beaches, Marcia and Steve moved further south to Florida. They forged many fulfilling and dear friendships along the way.

Marcia was the eldest of four siblings and leaves behind her brothers Mike.[spouse, Sara] and Eric [spouse, Sharon]. She was predeceased by her treasured sister, Joany Ethier. Marcia also leaves behind her seven grandchildren, Caroline, Sky, Katelyn, Lauren, Mya, Lars, and Ellie who she loved so deeply. Marcia is survived by countless loved ones, family members, close friends and her fur babies Maisie and Chin. A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church at 2:00 on May 5, 2023, in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
