Obituary for Marie G Armitstead (Lewis)

Marie Gail Armitstead (Lewis), 73, of Carver, passed away on Tuesday May 19,2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital of Plymouth Massachusetts of complications from COVID19.


Marie was born in Concord, New Hampshire, and adopted by her parents Norval B. Lewis and Martha I Lewis (Pattinson). She graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1965, where she then attended nursing school at Winthrop Hospital and graduated in 1967. She married Bruce Armitstead on June 20, 1970. Marie worked as an LPN at the Greenery Skilled Rehab and Nursing facility in Brighton from 1983 until it’s closing in 2001. Marie also worked for many years at Boston Edison/Entergy in their medical building performing fitness for duty physicals. She worked for many skilled nursing facilities since the closing of the Greenery and most recently worked for Emmanuel House/Connemara in Brockton.


When she wasn’t working she enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, doing arts and crafts, cooking/baking, gardening, and was passionate about her hummingbirds.


Marie is preceded in death by her parents Norval B. Lewis and Martha I Lewis (Pattinson), her in-laws Edith A Armitstead (Vass) and Stanley Armitstead, her sister Jeanette Hemeon, her brothers Richard Coleman and George Yeaton, sister in law Elizabeth Doyle, brother in laws George Armitstead, Paul Doyle, and Alan Clark.


Marie is survived by her husband Bruce Armitstead, her daughter Leslie M. Cifuentes (Armitstead) and her husband Jayro of Wareham, her son Leigh Armitstead and his wife Jeanine of Marshfield, her daughter Courtney M. Pimental (Armitstead) and her husband Benjamin of Carver, her twin sister May C. Holden (Lewis) and sisters Pearl, Marla, Grace, Wanita, Suzanne, and Donna, her loving grandchildren Jackson and Morgan, her sister in laws Barbara Sharib, Marie Chefro, and Joyce Yeaton, and many nieces and nephews.


Marie was cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when it is safe for all who loved her to celebrate together. Due to the current circumstances surrounding the COVID19 pandemic a scholarship in her name through Maine Central Institute is in progress and details to follow.
