Obituary for Marion Connolly (O'Brien)

Connolly, Marion A. 88, of Plymouth, formerly of Charlestown and Somerville, passed away on Wednesday, July 20 th at The Duxbury House. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late James Henry and Mary O’Brien.

She grew up in Charlestown and graduated from Charlestown High School. Shortly after, she married the love of her life James (Jimmy). Marion and Jim started their lives in Charlestown raising three children, eventually moving to Somerville.

Marion loved dancing and watching sports. She especially loved watching her grandchildren’s games, always the most supportive cheerleader! Marion and Jim spent many weekends getting dressed up and going square dancing. In the summers, she loved camping and travelling. She continued enjoying summer weather during the winter in Naples, Florida. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Marion and her late husband Jim were married for 67 years. She leaves behind her children; Mary Ellen Sullivan and her husband Brian of Duxbury, the late James Connolly, Jr. and his wife Debra of Florida and John Connolly and his wife Nancy of New Hampshire. She was nana to Sean and his wife Beth, Kyle, Carlin and Craig Sullivan of Duxbury, Shannon and her husband Morgan Rech, Jessica, Jillian and Ashley Connolly of Florida, Nicole and her husband Stephen Bubb, Kelsey and Christopher Connolly of New Hampshire. She was great nana to Emery, Conor and Colin Sullivan, Connor and William Rech and Mason and Ellianna Bubb.

She is survived by her sister Beverly Rogers and brother Eddie O’Brien, and sisters in law Margaret VanGorder, Barbara Swales and Gertrude Keough. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Whitlock and her brother’s James and Daniel O’Brien. Also, her brother in laws Francis Whitlock and Paul Rogers and sister in law Kathleen O’Brien.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 from 8:30-9:30 am. A funeral mass will be held on July 26, 2022 at 10:00am at Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury. Interment will follow at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury
