Obituary for Marjory Ruth Kuhfahl (Leason)

Born in Sydney, Australia, the daughter of the late Percy and Isabel Leason, Marjory immigrated to Staten Island, New York with her family in 1939 where she began her art career. There she met her husband, Myron Kuhfahl, and raised her five children. She was a member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club and exhibited at the National Academy, National Arts Club, and Staten Island Institute of Arts and Science, all within New York City. She retired to Cape Cod in 1996, where she tended to her gardens and spent time with her Yorkshire Terriers. Marjory enjoyed painting her whole life, especially flowers from her garden, and she exhibited locally for decades. On summer Sundays, she could usually be found at the Yarmouth Art Guild’s outdoor art shows on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. She was also an active member of the Cape Cod Art Association and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Survived by her children, Susan Matteri and her husband Joseph (Braintree, VT), John Kuhfahl and his wife Jane (San Antonio, TX), Sandra Kuhfahl and her partner Thomas McCloud (Yarmouth Port, MA), David Kuhfahl and his wife Lena (Union Hall, VA), and Debbie Kuhfahl (Yarmouth Port, MA), thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and her sister Nancy Fenton (Fallbrook, CA). A private memorial will be held at Ancient Cemetery in Yarmouth Port, followed by a celebration of life in June. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating on Marjory’s behalf to the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
