Marty was born at 3:45pm on May 29th, 2021. He died Tuesday, June 29th surrounded by love. Marty smiled when we touched his cheeks; he giggled when we tickled under his chin. His big, beautiful eyes took in everything around him with wonder. He loved to look at the windows and the lights; he loved the sound of our voices. Marty knew unconditional and ecstatic love for all 31 days of his life.
We are so grateful that Marty came to us. He brought pure joy and unimaginable happiness to everyone around him. We are grateful for moments of togetherness, like bedtime stories every night and walks through the neighborhood, blissful and full of pride. We are grateful for every single experience that Marty made possible in our lives, and for every experience of his.
Marty is survived by his Dada and Mama, Matthew O'Duffy-Johnston and Emily Marjorie Cross, Mama Caitlin Van Gelder, Dadatt Semjase Pellegrino, brother Raphael Joseph Cross, sister Marley Van Gelder, grandmothers Colleen O’Duffy-Johnston and Alice Cross, uncles Martin Joseph Johnston, III, and Michael Cross, Jr., aunts Sadie Santos and Muska Yousuf, cousins Raegan, Rowan, and Madeleine Johnston, as well as many other loving family members and friends. Marty is predeceased by his eternally loving grandfathers, Michael Cross, Sr., and Martin Joseph Johnston, Jr.
We have been so blessed to have Marty in our lives; he impacted us profoundly and will stay with us forever. We thank our family and friends, near and far, for their loving support.
