Obituary for Mary Ellen McEvoy (McCulley)

Mary McEvoy, 62, of Plymouth, MA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 8, 2024. Mary was born on September 9, 1961, in Boston MA to Garfield and Mary McCulley. She graduated from North Quincy High, where she met the love of her life, Richard McEvoy. She moved to Plymouth with her family, where she lived for over 30 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend.

For all that knew her, she always put others before herself. Mary unconditionally cared for her husband Rich as he battled ALS during the last few years of his life. She also was a lover of all animals, adopting multiple dogs over the years.

Before Rich’s illness, they fell in love with cruising and visited many of the Caribbean islands. This was quite a feat, considering Mary wasn’t a huge fan of flying. She was an amazing cook, known for her cheesy mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving and her yummy desserts at Christmas. She was a proud Nana, who always bought the girls way too many toys and treats.

She was starting to explore life again after the passing of Rich, visiting the Grand Canyon and even Disneyland. She recently welcomed a new granddaughter and was enjoying newborn giggles again. She will be greatly missed by all of her friends and family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Richard, father Garfield, mother Mary, and her brother Garfield but she leaves behind a family that loved her. Mary is survived by her children Melissa (Selvin) Sandoval, and Richard McEvoy, and her granddaughters Selena and Scarlett. She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters, Helen (Mike) Scalisi, Linda (Wayne) McVay, Mark McCulley, Robert (Thomas) McCulley, Richard (Mary Ann) McCulley, Wayne (Peggy) McCulley, Anthony (Namie) McCulley, and many nieces and nephews.

In Lieu of Flowers, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association.

Arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth (,+Plymouth?entry=gmail&source=g). Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19th from 4-6 pm. A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church in Plymouth on Wednesday, March 20th at 10:30 am.
