In Memory of Mary Veronica Rivet (Sheerin)

Mary Veronica Rivet of North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31st at the Pat Roche Hospice House in Hingham, MA. She received the Sacrament of Anointing, the Apostolic Blessing and was comforted by her many loved ones shortly before her passing. Mary was the daughter of Patrick and Mary Sheerin. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Gerard Rivet, her siblings Walburga Wise (William), Edward Sheerin (Jerry), Thomas Sheerin, and Rita Kozaczka (George).

Mary will be remembered by her friends and family for her strong independent nature, abundant common sense, fun loving spirit and her fiery red hair. Mary worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for 45 years; she began work there as a clerk in the Medical Records Department and rose to the level of Director of Medical Records. She loved dancing particularly at Lincoln Park, skiing, and boating. She left a legacy of joy and love among the many people who knew her. Mary had a summer home in Fairhaven, MA where for many years she entertained friends and family.

Mary is survived by her brother John Sheerin and his wife Phyllis, her sister-in-law Virginia Sheerin and her many nieces and nephews: William Wise Jr of Hingham, Pauline Munroe of Yarmouth Port, Kathleen O’Keefe of Dennis, Joanne Lariviere of Westbrook, CT, Kathleen Golenski of New Bedford, Patti Ann Tschaen of Holmdel, Michael Sheerin of Miami, FL, NJ, John Sheerin Jr. of Bridgewater and Kevin Sheerin of Palmetto, FL, as well as her adopted nieces and nephew Carol and Betsy Johnson and Rev Michael E. Spencer. Special thanks to the staff at Autumn Glen Assisted Living who cared for Mary these past 13 years and to the staff at The Pat Roche Hospice House who made Mary’s last week peaceful for her and for her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at 11AM at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 494 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth, MA with burial following at St. Mary’s Cemetery 1213 Kempton Street, New Bedford, MA. In lieu of flowers donations to your favorite charity is much appreciated.
