Obituary for Nason Fisher King

A lover of limericks, dirty jokes, punny puns, word play, horse play, water balloon fights
and water fights that ended when he dragged the hose through the house, we will not see his kind
again.

Nate was a man who worked hard and played harder. He took care of his family, because
family was the point of it all. He was surrounded by his family as he took his last peaceful breath
at home Sunday, July 18, 2021.

Born May 22, 1944 in Norwalk, CT, and raised on Nantucket, he met the love of his life
Barbara at Nantucket High School, where he courted her in class by wiggling his ears at her. He
played center on the football team, acted in two high school plays and one local production, even
dancing in Brigadoon. After graduation, Nate and Barbara married and moved off island, settling
in Yarmouth where they raised their two daughters, Colleen and Angie.

Every weekend was spent as a family, camping on Sandy Neck Beach, or having
adventures with friends from the Cape Cod 4-Wheel Drive Club. He became one of the longest
serving members of the Sandy Neck Governing and then Advisory Boards, also serving as Chair.

He loved playing games, everything from cribbage to horseshoes, boating and fishing, and he
could even waterski barefoot. He invented the game of “pipe ball” so every neighborhood kid
could come and play. If it was fun, he was up for it.

Nate owned and operated Nate’s Electric for more than four decades, retiring in 2018. He
started as an electrician’s helper in 1964, and within ten years he opened his own business. He
also served as Vice President of the Cape Cod Chapter of the Massachusetts Electrical
Contractors’ Association. Nate loved meeting his customers and being there for them when they
were in a bind. He taught us the importance of treating people with kindness and generosity. He
would give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it.

Nate is predeceased by his parents, Kent and Marriott King, as well as his brother and
best friend Keith. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Barbara, his daughters Colleen Spero
and Angela O’Brien (Sean) and his beloved grandchildren, Caitlin, Carson, Michael and
Maddison. (And one great grandchild on the way!) He is also survived by his brother Bryan
(Susan) of Connecticut and his sister-in-law Cindy of Hawaii as well as many nieces and
nephews.

In Nate’s memory, you could make a donation to the American Cancer Society or the
VNA of Cape Cod. We are also immensely grateful for the assistance of the C-O-MM Fire
Department. As per his wishes, there will be no formal memorial service, because Nate hated
ceremony. His family asks that you remember him by making someone smile today with a good
joke or a good deed. Even his short battle with cancer didn’t stop Nate from being jovial and
brightening the days of his medical team.

One last limerick for the man from Nantucket:
There was an old man named King
A fun, family life was his thing,
He worked hard a long while,
Making many people smile,
And he gave all our lives so much zing!

Safe travels, Dad. We miss you.
