Obituary for Paul L Benbenek

Mr. Paul Benbenek passed away on November 22, 2022 from complications due to Covid. He was 68 years old. Mr. Benbenek was a resident of Bridgewater, MA for the past two years and previously
lived in Halifax for 17 years and Hanson for 15 years.

Paul was the loving and devoted father of Kristen Benbenek of Marshfield and Matthew Benbenek of Plymouth. He is survived by his four brothers, Philip Benbenek and his wife Joreen, of Marshfield, Thomas Benbenek and his wife Lucille, of Templeton, Eugene Benbenek of Dartmouth and Alfred Benbenek of New Bedford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his former spouse, Diane Benbenek, of Plymouth.

Paul was born in New Bedford on May 17, 1954 and was brought up in Westport, MA. He attended Bishop Stang High School in Dartmouth. He also earned his B.S. in Education from Bridgewater State University. He loved sports and played football, baseball and track in high school. He also was a member of the district band. In college he was a member of the track team and broke the school record for the javelin throw in both high school and college.

Mr. Benbenek was a popular teacher in the Town of Whitman for 35 years. He worked in the Middle School and taught fourth grade at the Holt and Conley Schools. He loved teaching and enjoyed doing many special projects with his students. He especially enjoyed teaching literature and science.

Paul was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting with his brothers. Every year they enjoyed a competitive fishing trip to Lake Winnipesaukee. He also loved skiing with his family, golfing, biking and photography. In addition to his hobbies he was an ardent Boston Sports fan. He rarely missed watching a Red Sox Game and was a big fan of the Patriots. He also enjoyed coaching his son Matthew’s soccer team and attending his children’s many activities and games.

After he retired from teaching Paul worked for 10 years at Bradford’s Liquor Store in Plymouth.

He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held at Bartlett Funeral Home in Plymouth on Monday, November 28 from 5-7.

Funeral mass will be held on Tues., November 29 at 1030 am at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Plymouth.
