Obituary for Richard Vernon Horne

Richard Vernon Horne passed away in his Falmouth, MA home on April
3 rd at the age of 93. He was the son of the late Vernon and Evelyn
(MacNeil) Horne of West Roxbury. At 17, Richard joined the Marine
Corps and served in the Pacific Theater in WW II, including the Battle of
the Philippines and the Battle of Okinawa. After the War, Richard met
and married his wife, Dorothy (Fleming), of Rhode Island to whom he
was married for 46 years. He graduated at the top of his class from
Providence College and was Valedictorian for the class of 1954.
Richard is survived by two daughters: Dorothy Powell and Patricia
Dziados; four grandchildren: John Powell Jr., Kristin McLaughlin,
Jacalyn Colligan and Christopher Dziados; three great-grandchildren:
Callum McLaughlin, Victoria McLaughlin, and Connor Colligan; his
brother, Robert Horne; and many nieces and nephews. He was
predeceased by his parents, his wife, and four sisters. Richard also
leaves his dear friend, Edith Paparella, with whom he shared many
happy years.
Richard could light up any room and was loved by many. Above all else,
he loved his family and considered himself very lucky to have lived such
a long and wonderful life.
A Memorial Mass for Richard will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in
Falmouth on May 4 th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
