Obituary for Richard Tavares

Richard Tavares, 88, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022, at the Bay Path Skilled Nursing
Center in Duxbury. He was born December 18, 1933,in Plymouth, to the late John and Tina (Barufaldi)
Tavares. Richard was a lifetime resident of the town of Plymouth and a proud graduate of Plymouth North
High School, where he served as the 1951 class president. After graduating, Richard enlisted in the
U.S. Marine Corps, and he remained proud to be a Marine throughout his life. He spent his working
career with Verizon Communications. Richard is survived by his devoted wife Rosanne
Tavares. Richard and Rosanne recently celebrated their 66 th wedding anniversary after first meeting in
the 8 th grade. He was the loving father of Theresa Ahern of Plymouth and Lisa McGlone and her
husband Kevin McGlone of Sandwich. He was also the cherished grandfather of Kasey Ahern.
Richard lived life to the fullest; he was happiest spending time with his family and working
outside in the yard. He took pride in keeping up a pristine lawn and growing noteworthy
tomatoes. Richard and Rosanne loved to travel throughout their married years visiting places like
Hawaii, Ireland, Italy, and the Azores. Richard particularly enjoyed celebrating his Portuguese
and Italian heritage through food- time for the “big eats” he would always say. He spent his free
time on hunting trips, driving out to the Point, and catching the Patriots and Red Sox games on
weekends. Many relied on him as a Plymouth Town Meeting Member, providing a voice for his
community and he enjoyed chatting with the guys at the Young American and the Cold Spring
social clubs. Richard was loved by many and will be sorely missed by his family, extended family, and
friends. Private services were held by his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his
memory may be sent to the Church of St. Peter’s in Plymouth, MA. Checks maybe be mailed to
10 Memorial Dr., Plymouth, MA 02360.
