On Wednesday December 23, 2020, Dr. Scott F. Taylor, loving father, husband, and grandfather, passed away in his home at the age of 62. Scott was born on September 4, 1958 in Brockton, Massachusetts to William and Hope Taylor. On June 16, 1984 he married Lauren E. Dube and together they raised one daughter, Katherine Magee.
He received his Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL in 1994. Upon graduation he spent two years conducting vaccine research and in 1996 became the first Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to be awarded the prestigious Henry Christian Science Award for excellence in research. Scott went on to practice Emergency and General Veterinary Medicine in the states of Florida and Massachusetts for 24 years. Scott was still actively practicing at Mashpee Veterinary Hospital at the time of his passing.
Scott was committed to excellence in his field and spent much of his time furthering his knowledge in animal medicine. He became a well-known provider and a reputable Veterinary Surgeon. Scott also enjoyed working with The Humane Society and The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to assist in relief efforts by providing emergency care to animals in Louisiana and the U.S. Virgin Islands after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Maria.
Scott was a jack-of-all-trades and an exceptional self-taught carpenter. He spent many years remodeling and perfecting his historic West Barnstable home. When not working on his own home he was quick to assist a friend or family member with their remodeling projects. Scott also enjoyed moments of peace and quiet and could be found fishing along the Cape Cod Canal. He was known for his intelligence, quick wit, dark humor and giving nature.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, William, his mother, Hope, and his lifelong friend, Philip Hanly. He is survived by his wife, Lauren, his daughter Katherine, his son-law, Robert, his three granddaughters, Launa, Savannah and Marilyn, his Brother, Mark, his sister-in-law, Paula, his nephews, Brian and Joel, and several cousins.
There will be a private celebration of life for immediate family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Scott's name to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals https://www.aspca.org/
