Susan Gretchen Vomacka of Plymouth, MA, passed away peacefully after a stoic battle with cancer on November 9, 2019, at the age of 65. She leaves behind her son, Kyle V. Decker; her daughter, Caleigh A. Decker; her mother, Janice Vomacka; her brothers Jim Vomacka (Boni Edwards) and Chris Vomacka (Julie Vomacka); and her sister Martha Vomacka Geuss (Detlev Geuss). She is preceded in death by her father, George Vomacka. Born in Utica, NY, Susan attended Shenendehowa High School, Clifton Park, NY (c.1972) and the University of Saint Joseph, West Hartford, CT (c.1976). Susan was a devoted mother and worked tirelessly in support of her children. After college, she began her 40 year career in Boston, MA, first at the Harvard Medical School as Director of Administrative Services, Human Resources and most recently at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute as Director, HRIS Integration & Operations. In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Susan was an avid runner, loved working in her garden, reading, and taking care of her horse Belle and Milly the Cockatiel. In earlier years, she enjoyed singing with the MIT/Harvard's Women's Chorale. Susan faced the disease with the utmost courage and determination, and throughout, remained eternally optimistic and hopeful until the very end. Her family is forever grateful to her dear friends, colleagues and medical team who supported Susan these past 12 months and the caring staff at the Pat Roche Hospice House in Hingham, MA. For those who knew and loved Susan, please join her family for a Celebration of Life service on December 15, 2019 from 1pm-4pm at Hotel 1620, 180 Water Street, Plymouth, MA, 02360.
