Obituary for Theresa Elizabeth Currey (Parks)

Theresa Elizabeth Currey, 79, of Harwich Massachusetts passed on Jan. 29, 2023 after a brief, undiagnosed illness. Her final days were spent at her home in the presence of her loved ones.

Born in Biddeford Maine on July 3, 1943, she was the daughter of Milicent and William (Bill) Tuttle. Theresa later moved to Middlebury Connecticut and attended high school in Woodbury Connecticut where she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Stephen Currey. They then moved to the Cape in 1964 with their young family. They always had an open door policy and welcomed many people into their home. She was a generous host to children from the Fresh Air Fund, AFS exchange students, and Harwich Mariner baseball players. Theresa retired from the US Postal Service, Dennisport office, after many years of service. She then dedicated herself to quilting, as both a hobby and a passion that she shared with her oldest daughter, Patricia, after retirement. She was a member of numerous quilting clubs. In addition to making special occasion quilts for her children, grandchildren and friends, she also gifted quilts to fundraisers, charitable organizations and each graduating high school senior at the Northside United Methodist Church. A dedicated and passionate fan of the Bruins, Patriots, Red Sox and Packers, she most enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren compete, whether in youth leagues or High School.

There are so many things we will always remember about our mother and grandmother; the music of Kenny Rogers and Neil Diamond playing on the stereo, the ways she chewed her tongue when in deep concentration, the endless nights of playing cards with family and friends and the book of directions to every ice rink in Massachusetts that she used, refusing to rely on Mapquest or later GPS. She was strong in will and spirit, honest in her opinions. She always gave more than she took, burdening none while generous with all. Remembering how she always followed us out to the end of the driveway, sending us off with a kiss and a wave when leaving her home. It was with great honor that her family was able to walk her to the driveway and see her off as she left her home on that final day.

Theresa was the cherished wife of Stephen L. Currey for 61 years and the sister of Rowena Gatta of Branford, Connecticut and Donald Parks, previously deceased, of Southington, Connecticut. She is the mother of Patricia Currey of Harwich, Heather Corbett of Centerville and Eric Currey of Sandwich and is predeceased by two infant daughters, Lisa and Christina and her “adopted” exchange student, Lidice Galione of Uruguay. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Taylor, Keslie, TJ, Kyra, Marilena, Nicolas, and Sarah as well as four great grandchildren.

Theresa is a three time cancer survivor, memorial donation may be made to Relay for Life or the Jimmy Fund.

She is loved and missed greatly by her family.

A memorial service will be held at a future date.
