Obituary

Anne Lincoln Welch, of Harwich, MA, passed gently away surrounded by her daughters on November 11, 2016. Anne was born on May 13, 1922, and grew up in Hamden, CT, and Washington, DC. She later moved to Walpole, MA, where she met her future husband Joe. They wed in 1947 and were married for 69 years, living in Walpole until they moved to Harwich in 1985. Anne was a passionate gardener and was famous for her cooking and entertaining, hosting delightful parties in Walpole and warmly welcoming friends to the family's summer home in Harwich. She was an avid reader, a dedicated volunteer, and an ardent political activist and supporter of civil rights. Anne loved a good debate and was proud owner of a masterfully crafted soapbox, made and gifted to her by her son-in-law Berny Cooper. Anne is survived by her husband Joe and his brothers Lyndon Welch and Jacob Brown (wife Barbara), her sister Lucretia Martin (husband Peter), her daughters Martha Cooper (husband Berny), Nancy Welch, Margaret Welch (husband Ron Rozsa), and Molly Brewer (husband Mark). She is also survived by her granddaughters Corey Beauharnois and Lindsey Djordjevich, by her grandson Andrew Brewer; by eight great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family, friends, and warm-hearted caregivers. Her sisters Mary Lincoln and Peg Bradner predeceased her. The family suggests that donations in Anne's memory be made to the League of Women Voters, Southern Poverty Law Center, Harwich (MA) Conservation Trust, Planned Parenthood, or a Democratic advocacy organization of your choice.
