Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of April L. Amiro, who died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 29, at the age of 89. A longtime resident of Brockton, April was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and a warm presence in her community.

Born in Pennsylvania, April spent her formative years in Hull and attended school in Hingham, where she met her first husband, the late Willard "Willie" Jorritsma. She furthered her education at Comptometer School in Boston and built a dedicated career, working for many years at Etonic in Brockton before retiring from Rockland Trust in Rockland.

April was a talented and generous woman, known for her wonderful cooking and love of baking, with her lasagna, bread, pies, and cookies being particular favorites. Her other hobbies included knitting, gardening, and fishing. In her later years, she developed a passion for reading.

Known affectionately as "Ma" and "Nana" not only by her own family but by many of the neighborhood children as well, April's kitchen was a hub of warmth and activity. She will be especially remembered by her grandchildren for the joyful "cocoa parties" and fun "hair-dressing sessions" where she patiently let them style her hair however they pleased.

April was pre-deceased by her dedicated husband, John "Jack" Amiro; her parents, Mary and James "Jim" Eastman of NH; and her children, Cindi MacLean and James "Jimmy" Jorritsma.

She is survived by her two loving children, Mary Walcott and her partner Dave Adams of Brockton and Willard "Bill" Jorritsma of Wareham; her brother, George Eastman and his wife Sue of RI; seven grandchildren, Lisa Walcott, Steve Walcott, Katie MacLean, Kelley MacLean, James Jorritsma, Jessica Trott and her husband Matthew Trott, and Nicole Jorritsma and her partner Victor Pedranti; and five great-grandchildren, Kiley, James, Lily, Apryl, and Olivia.

April's kindness, culinary skills, loving spirit, and endless sense of humor will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 5th from 4-7 pm.

A private burial will be held by the family.
