Barbara Mundy, 88, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025. She was born in Shamokin, PA, the daughter of the late Edward and Elva Mae (Lindenmuth) Kester.
Barbara grew up in Tamaqua, PA, and graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1955. She went on to attend the Reading Hospital School of Nursing, earning her nursing degree in 1958. In 1962, she married the love of her life, Dan, and together they began their family while he served in the Navy. After his discharge, they eventually settled in Millis, MA, where they made their home for 42 years. In 2017, they moved to The Pinehills in Plymouth.
A devoted wife and mother, Barbara poured her heart into her family. She could often be found in the kitchen or cheering on her children at countless band and sporting events. A talented and avid knitter, she lovingly created scarves, afghans, and baby blankets for those she cared about. She enjoyed traveling, especially the annual week away with the Navy Glennon gang, from US Virgin Islands to San Diego with many destinations in between. She and Dan shared many memorable trips to their own paradise—Maui.
Barbara had a joyful competitive streak, remaining a card shark well into her later years, winning at Crazy 8s just last week. She cherished her lifelong friendships—from Portland, CT, Navy wives, and her dear sisters-in-law. Upon retirement, she and Dan became snowbirds in Naples, FL, where she took up golf and bocce, forming new friendships in both Naples and Plymouth. She loved a good shopping day, a spa visit, and a girl’s weekend. More than anything, she loved time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Barbara leaves behind her husband of 63 years, Dan. She is also survived by her children: Kirstin Lynch and her husband, Paul, of Acton, MA; Jennifer Mundy of Boston, MA; and Brian Mundy and Tracey, of Norwell, MA. She was the loving Nana to Matthew and his wife, Halsey, of Leesburg, VA; Kaitlyn and Nicholas of Acton; Sydney, Liam, Ana, and Patrick of Duxbury; and Will, Brodie, and McClain of Norwell.
She was preceded in death by her siblings—three brothers, Bill, Don, and Ted, and five sisters, Norma,Marion, Pat, Phyllis, and Sandy. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth. Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13th, from 9:00–10:30 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at St. Peter’s, 86 Court Street, Plymouth, MA.
Interment will be private at the family’s request.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s memory may be made to the Great Island Memorial Fund, 149 Great Island Road, Plymouth, MA 02360, or to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinson.org.
