Obituary

Medeiros, Bella (Valente), 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Plymouth on August 7th 2011. She was the wife of the late Joseph R. Medeiros. Bella is survived by her son Jack Medeiros and his wife Nancy, of Plymouth, her daughter Marie (Medeiros) Van Slyck and her husband Pieter, of Duxbury as well as her brother Manuel Valente and his wife Evelyn, of Plymouth. Bella also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Michael Medeiros and wife Angela of Lakeland, FL, Lea (LaCross) Fortkamp and her husband Mark, of New Lenox, IL, Randall Medeiros and wife Minh of Kingston, MA, and Corinne Van Slyck of Boston, MA as well as four treasured great grandchildren with two more on the way. Bella was preceded in death by her sisters Lucy Valente, Mary Almeida and Tennie Almeida and her brother Anthony "Chipper" Valente. She will also be missed by a large network of extended family and friends whose lives she touched. Bella was a lifelong resident of Plymouth and parishioner of St. Mary's Church. She was born in 1926 to Antone P. and Maria (Souza) Valente. The youngest of five children, Bella attended Plymouth schools and worked in most of the area's woolen mills before moving on to Foxboro Corporation, from which she retired in 1988. Retirement was filled with travel and caring for her grandchildren. Bella's was a familiar face in North Plymouth; from cheering her son's baseball and basketball teams in the '50's and '60's, to hot July days marching alongside her grandchildren in the Holy Ghost Parade. She was loved by all who knew her. In more recent years, Bella enjoyed spending time with "the girls" from Water Aerobics at Duxbury's Percy Walker Pool and volunteered regularly at the Duxbury Senior Center. She also enjoyed knitting and spent many hours making shawls for our soldiers with the St. Mary's Women's Knitting Circle. An avid sports fan, Bella loved her family, her friends, seafood, white zinfandel, and a good joke. Milton Berle once said, "I live to laugh, and I laugh to live." So did Bella. Funeral arrangements will be by the Bartlett-Santos Funeral Home, 338 Court Street, Plymouth, MA. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 4-8 PM. A mass celebrating Bella's life will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 10 AM at St. Mary's Church in Plymouth. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bella's memory to the March of Dimes Foundation, 112 Turnpike Road, Suite 102, Westborough, MA, 01581 or www.marchofdimes.com/massachusetts
