Bernice M. (Hertel) Gilbert, 83, of Duxbury died peacefully, July 12th, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family. Bernice leaves behind Charles, her devoted and loving husband of 65 years. She was the proud mother of Linda MacDonald of Calalis, Maine, Steven Gilbert and his wife Debra of Kingston and Debra Galletti and her husband Darryl of Plymouth. Bernices siblings included her twin brother, Burton Hertel and his wife Joyce of Englewood, Florida and the late Stanley Hertel and his wife Frances of Carver. She was predeceased by her first grandchild Joseph Gildea. Her other grandchildren include Maureen Gildea of Calais, Maine, Charles Gildea of Holland Massachusetts, Cheryl Gillis and her husband Scott of Kingston and Dr. Jill Balboni of Osterville. She also leaves behind four great grandchildren, Michael Osseyran and Joseph Jordan of Calais, Maine and Hannah and Alyson Gillis of Kingston. During her lifetime Bernice most enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved to garden and to do oil paintings. She especially loved Plymouth Long Beach where she had a summer home for twenty years. Charles and Bernice retired to Englewood Florida for thirty years and returned back to the Plymouth area to be close to Family. At Mrs. Gilbert's request her funeral arrangements were private.
