Obituary

Kingston, MA – Betty Balkind, 86, entered into eternal rest December 17, 2022 at Wingate

Nursing Home in Kingston, MA. She was born June 9, 1936 in Boston, the daughter of Joseph

and Celia (Bornstein) Frankel. Betty attended Boston Public Schools, graduating from Jeremiah E. Burke High School in 1954. Following graduation, she attended Boston University, receiving her Business

Certificate in 1956.

In 1959, she married Moysha (Jack) Balkind of Dorchester. Betty and Jack raised three children

in Stoughton, MA and Plymouth, MA. Betty was an avid bowler, and played in many leagues.

She enjoyed all sports, but truly loved baseball and basketball. She was a devoted Celtics fan

her entire life. She also loved visiting the beaches of Plymouth and Cape Cod, where she

and her children enjoyed countless days in the sand and surf.

Betty was employed as an administrative professional for Marriott Food Service, Sodexo

Food Service, and she worked at Kohls in Plymouth as a cashier until 2015. Betty was predeceased by her mother and father, as well as her husband Jack; her only sister, Pearl Puritz, and Pearl's husband, Jack

Puritz of Mission Viejo, CA.

She is survived by her three sons, Burton Joseph Balkind, Nantucket, MA; Robert Henry Balkind,

Pleasant Valley, NY; and Richard Michael Balkind, Weymouth, MA. In addition, she is

survived by her grandchildren, Brandon Thomas Balkind and his wife Lee, Alexandria, VA; Sophie

Balkind, Burlington, VT; Chloe (Gabby) Balkind, Boston, MA, and Jakob Balkind, Weymouth,

MA. She is also survived by two great- grandchildren, and her nephews, Mike Puritz

and wife Judy, Harold Puritz, and niece Sharon Puritz.

Betty loved her family more than anything else, and she will be missed and eternally loved by

her family and friends.

Bartlett Funeral Home in Plymouth is assisting the family with arrangements. Please visit their

website to leave a condolence message for the family. A celebration of life service will be

scheduled in June 2023.
