IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carla
Lewis
January 15, 1948 – September 25, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Carla Brundage Lewis. She was the beloved daughter of Franklin and Marion Elizabeth (Lang) Brundage, sister of Karen (Brundage) Anthony, stepmother of Julie A. Lewis, aunt of Joshua Ogawa, and great aunt of Violet.
She was a remarkable woman who dedicated her talents in service of our country working for the Department of Defense. Carla was a brilliant MidEast analyst, earning an MA in Middle East studies from U.C Berkeley with a year study abroad at the American University in Cairo and later acquiring a prestigious Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence.
Throughout her career Carla strove to save lives while advancing U.S. policy goals. For example, she served under fire to protect the U.S. Embassy in Beirut during the civil war of the 1970s and played an important support role for the Iran hostage rescue mission. She broke glass ceilings and was selected for a key slot as the sole civilian among field grade officers as a Director of NSA fellow.
In retirement she enjoyed quieter things in life. She loved doing crosswords, crocheting, bird watching, and she was an avid reader. She also loved taking long drives, walks on the beaches in the surrounding areas, and learning about the history of Cape Cod.
Carla was a woman of faith who was looking forward to her next adventure in the hereafter after a long battle with cancer. She was courageous in her fight, but succumbed to the disease early in the morning on the 25th of September.
She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family is very thankful for the love and sympathetic messages from friends and would like to announce that the family will be mourning their loss in a private celebration of Miss Carla's life.
