Obituary

(Mary) Carol Gallagher (Harney) (9/11/37 -- 2/20/24) was born and raised in Plymouth, MA. She received a BA in Art and Education from Mass College of Art and a Master's degree from Fitchburg State College. Carol taught art in Billerica public schools, making her long-term home at the Marshall Middle School.

The youngest of five, Carol grew up on Saquish. She shared her love of the beach with her family spending as much time as possible at the Oceana into her 86th year.

Carol had many adventures traveling with her husband, daughters, and friends. She enjoyed all kinds of creative pursuits. Carol loved to tell stories and play dice with her grandsons and adopted family.

Daughter of George K. Harney and Marguerite L. DeCoste. Sister of the late Jo Thomas of Carver, MA; the late Thomas Harney of Plymouth, MA; the late Patricia Hall of Plymouth, MA; and the late William Harney of Chelmsford, MA.

Carol was predeceased by her husband, Bob Gallagher of Chelmsford, MA. She is survived by two daughters, Gwyn Gallagher of Cambridge, MA and Gretchyn Gallagher of North Andover, MA; son-in-law, Bryan Curley of North Andover, MA; and two grandsons, Ben Záa Gallagher and Billy Curley.

Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Gurnet & Bug Lights, Inc. to support the museum (planned to be modeled after the Oceana, Fort Standish's former guard shack and jail) being built on the grounds of Plymouth Light Station.
