Obituary

In Loving Memory of Cindy Marie DeVita

With sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cindy Marie DeVita, age 61, of Brockton, Massachusetts.

Cindy was born in Dorchester and raised in the communities of Dedham and Canton. Cindy was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Life was not always easy for Cindy as it included many challenges with mental illness. She lived on her own terms, leaving behind a story shaped by resilience, complexity, and a journey uniquely her own. Though her life ended too soon, we will remember her on her good days for the kindness in her heart and the care she extended to those less fortunate. We wish Cindy could have seen herself through the eyes of those who loved her and known how deeply her presence mattered. Her family will hold her memory in their hearts with love and compassion, while finding comfort in knowing she is now at peace.

She is survived by her mother, Barbara J. Costa, and stepfather, John Costa, of Kingston; her brother, Joe A. DeVita of Atlanta, Georgia; and her sister, Juleen R. Freitas, brother-in-law, Edward Freitas, and nephew, Luke Freitas, of Mansfield. Cindy was predeceased by her father, Joseph G. DeVita.

Gone too soon. Loved by many. She will be remembered forever. The family asks that you keep Cindy and those who loved her in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements will be under the care of the Bartlett Funeral Home, 338 Court Street. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 9-11am. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Cindy's honor to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), supporting advocacy, education, and resources for individuals and families affected by mental illness. Donations may be made through NAMI's Memorial and Honorary Giving program at NAMI Memorial and Honorary Giving.
