Obituary

Claire Ames, 95, died on April 8, 2026 after a courageous battle with advanced dementia.

Claire was born in Falmouth, MA and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1950. She had an accomplished career as a telephone operator for New England Telephone and received many awards for her outstanding service.

Claire lived in Hyannis with her husband, Ralph, and daughter, Heidi, for most of her adult life where she enjoyed gardening and taking care of their home. She loved spending time with family in Falmouth. Her hobbies included cooking and completing the Cape Cod Times crossword puzzles. Claire is survived by her beloved daughter, Heidi, of Sandwich. She also leaves her sister, Cecelia Lajoie, of Falmouth, sister-in-law Toni, brother-in-law Michael (Helen) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, her parents Gilda and Joseph Bento, sisters Octavia Liebic (Karl), Adeline Hardy (Richard), brothers William Bento (Lillian), and James Bento (Helen).

She will be missed beyond measure but will live on in the hearts of her family. We are filled with gratitude for the care given to Claire by the staff at Laurentide as well as her entire Continuum Hospice Team.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church, South Street, Hyannis. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
